Never Fail Oats

Updated: Jan 28, 2019

Anyone who knows me knows that porridge is my absolute favourite meal of the day… very rarely do I start the day without a bowl of warm chocolatey goodness.

This is my go-to breakfast that honestly keeps me full for hours!

Porridge is an amazing breakfast option. Rolled oats are an amazing source of low-GI complex carbohydrates which means that blood sugar levels won’t rapidly rise and cause a crash within a few hours. The glucose is slowly released into the body and used as a sustained source of energy. Carbohydrates WON’T make you fat if you eat the right source such as low-GI complex carbohydrates, OATS!

Chia seeds are loaded with antioxidants, omega-3 essential fatty acids, protein and fibre. The fibre in chia seeds means they can absorb around 10 times their weight in water, within the stomach. This increases fullness and promotes satiety. Omega-3 essential fatty acids are important as our western diet is high in omega-6 (inflammatory) and lacks omega-3 (anti-inflammatory). Having high levels of omega but low levels of omega-3 increase inflammation within the body which can lead to various diseases.

Maca powder has been well known for its ability to balance hormones, specifically it’s role in oestrogen balance. When oestrogen levels are too low/ high this can cause disturbances in women’s health.

Cacao powder is a little powerhouse containing antioxidants which help our body fight free radicals that arise from day to day unhealthy habits. They also contain serotonin and dopamine which have been associated with feelings of well-being, happiness and motivation.
